Watercoloring "Old Barn" with Ben Beckendorf

Posted by TopBox Solutions on

Ben Beckendorf shows us the process of watercoloring one of his father's, Charles Beckendorf, sketches from 1991. Ben uses a 3/4 inch brush, a 1/2 inch brush, and a #8 round brush for this piece. Charles Beckendorf did the drawings for these limited edition prints in 1991. Charles first coated boards with a gesso, then lightly sanded the boards to give them a rough texture. He then did a pencil drawing on the board, and the pencil lines would have dots that would give the drawing an "old etched" look. We then printed them in black and white on watercolor paper, and then his son Ben individually hand watercolors each one to give it a personal touch. This one is called "Old Barn".
